Two views of the Urgellet plain
You would never have imagined that the origin of the hermitage of Sant Antoni del Tossal was a promise made by an Indian who had feared death on a storm-hit trip to the Americas.
In stark contrast to its origin, the peace and quiet of this location are exceptional, as are the panoramic views of La Seu d'Urgell, surrounded by the high peaks of the Pyrenees.
You can spend the second day exploring the historic centre of La Seu d'Urgell and walking along a short stretch of the mighty River Segre.
Gran Sol camp site - hermitage of Sant Antoni and back
The route starts from La Palanca. You must then follow the River Calor until you reach Cal Cinca. Then go along the old road to Ges which turns into a small path after it crosses the irrigation fields of Olla. This path, which you will find overrun with brambles, runs parallel to the old road to Ges. You should then continue until you reach La Collada. If you followed the ridge, it would take you to Ges, while the turning off to the right leads to La Bastida. Leave the path to Ges and take a small path that runs off to the left and which will take you down to the Cerc Valley. The path then becomes just a track until the point where it reaches the River Cerc, next to an old scrapyard. Cross the stream and head up to the tarmac road. Then follow an old track, which begins on the other side of the road, which will take you to the pass where there is a hill and the hermitage of Sant Antoni.
The hermitage stands on top of Miralles hill. From the St Antoni pass, you must leave the track and follow a trail that heads northward. When you reach a clearing, at the shooting ground of El Tossal, turn off to the right and head east.
Before arriving at Bell-lloc, turn off to the left and follow the path that heads northwards. This will take you to the Obaga path, which runs from La Seu d'Urgell to Alàs. Continue in the direction of La Seu until you come to a relatively modern house and then follow the track that runs off to the right. This track then becomes a path and will lead you to another track that follows the banks of the River Segre, at its confluence with the River Cerc. After that, follow the river back towards La Seu.
